about
Katie Lindsay is an obsessive songwriter, spitting out songs that defy definition for the last ten years. A keyboardist by trade, a grungy self-taught guitarist at home, engineer of brooding synths and keeper of a uniquely soaring voice, Lindsay is one of Glasgow’s busiest musicians. Her songs are outrageously intimate, pure poetry set to dazzling musical backdrops, with strikingly vulnerable vocals, haunting finger-picked guitar and wistful piano. With cryptic lyricism like that of songwriters Jeff Buckley and Adrianne Lenker, Lindsay’s music is feeling-first, heart on her sleeve and in your face. Her shimmering instrumentals take inspiration from the surreal romance of shoegaze, with mysterious lyrical vignettes which invite listeners to use their imagination and seek catharsis.
Whilst studying music as a writer and pianist, Lindsay scattered pieces of her discography as she went, from her first single ‘hard thing’, a heart-broken-bedroom-ballad crackling with warmth and guttural pain, to the indie-emo-belter love song ‘Black Door’. In 2025, Lindsay released her EP ‘minim’, an exploration of how the timbral properties of the piano could be manipulated using post-processing in minimalist pieces. These four tracks, each dedicated to a different one of her cats, set the sonic baseline for what was to come next. Katie Lindsay was hand-picked to perform at the Danny Kyle Open Stage as part of Celtic Connections in 2026, where she performed unreleased material from ‘Scrapbook Songs’, her folio exploring the role of a singer-songwriter which earned her a Bachelor of Arts from the University of Highlands and Islands.
Lindsay’s influences expand beyond her own discography. Her folk-pop duo Two-Headed Calf have nurtured a loyal fanbase throughout Glasgow with their blend of melancholy and burning hope for the future, raising money for the Scottish Women’s Rights Centre and fostering their community with DIY home shows. The other side of the coin is Lindsay’s indie-shoegaze band brittle, who have gained national attention with their punchy take on dreamy, romantic rock, selling out shows across the central belt and highlands. Lindsay’s cinematic synths and silvery backing vocals create a stunning atmosphere at the band’s live shows, with highlights including Belladrum’s Mainstage and supporting the legendary Declan Welsh and The Decadent West (SAY, SMIA).
Lindsay’s young career has already proven fruitful, seeing her travelling across the UK performing with award-winning songwriters such as Carla J Easton (SAY, The Vaselines, Teen Canteen) and Kohla (SAMA, PopGirlz). Lending her talents to musicians and friends all across Scotland in the studio and on-stage, Lindsay is already a seasoned player, comfortable in any number of styles and genres, and always eager for more work.
